Wow: as someone who regularly follows and contributes to the health blogosphere, I'm still amazed at how quickly this little stir over athenahealth's yet-to-be released Community program has blown up. Just last week I knew only a few things about athenahealth; namely that the Greek-sounding name didn't use capital letters, and that CEO Jonathan Bush not only interviewed well at HIMSS but recently made an interesting debut on his company's blog.
Actually, the one thing I remember clearly about his inaugural post was that his final cry of "I also hope it [the blog] makes more doctors learn that athenahealth exists!! We EXIST!!!!!!
" reminded me of the Whos shouting "We are here!
" from their dust speck on Horton the elephant's nose. Judging by this week's coverage, not only is athenahealth known in the online HIT community, but it's also stirred quite the dustup there. Here's a play-by-play on what happened.

Yesterday CCHIT announced that Dr. Karen M. Bell will serve as the organization's new chair, starting April 26. This news ends five months of speculation prompted by Dr. Mark Leavitt's decision to retire this year. This transition will mark CCHIT's first chair change since its founding in 2004, and will certainly have an important impact on the future of EHR certification.
